The Long Room
Seventy-five minutes of guided deep rest on the last Friday of the month. Blankets, bolsters, low light, and permission to fall asleep.
Once a month the studio stays open late, the skylight blind comes down, and June sets up sixteen nests: a mat, two blankets, a bolster under the knees, a folded towel over the eyes. The Long Room is yoga nidra in everything but name — a long, spoken rotation of attention around the body while you lie completely still — and it is the most booked class we have. It sells out inside a day of the month’s slots opening.
Last Friday of the month, and why
Because the end of a month is heavy for almost everyone, because a Friday means nobody has to be up early, and because doing it once a month makes it an occasion. We tried it weekly in 2022. Attendance was fine and the room felt ordinary. Monthly, it feels like being put to bed properly.
The seventy-five minutes
Fifteen minutes to arrive, get warm and fidget. Fifty minutes of June’s voice, getting steadily quieter. Ten minutes of silence, then a slow count back up, a cup of chamomile at the door, and out into the yard.
Booking
Slots for the month open at 9:30am on the first Wednesday. The Long Room is not included in the monthly membership’s four-a-week — it is always a separate £22 booking, and members get first refusal for forty-eight hours before slots go public. Late cancellations follow the normal six-hour rule, and the freed mat goes to the top of the waiting list.
